POSITION SUMMARY :
The Second Press Operator/ Press Helper acts as the First Press Operator’s assistant, and may operate both the Timson press and folder in the First Press Operator’s absence. This is a night shift position. Hours are 6pm - 6am, 3 days/week (W, Th, F or Th, F, Sa).
Primary duties include but are not limited to :
Assists in operating the press and folder, cleaning and maintaining equipment, changing paper rolls.
Help in the administration of maintenance programs, tasks, and associated paperwork and data entry, ensuring the correct information concerning press runs, paper consumption, and waste information entered into the computer.
Ensure maintenance activities are thoroughly accomplished and documented.
Inspects for and maintains a high quality of web work. Ensure sample copies are of the highest quality. Ensure all autocount printouts and computer entries are correct and accurate.
Works with the First Press Operator to see all running samples are pulled, inspected, and initialed.
Responsible for informing the First Press Operator of errors.
Works to keep the entire press area clean at all times, both during production runs and down time, using the resources of him/herself and others efficiently and ensure the First Press Operator’s requirements are efficiently and expeditiously met.
Read, understand, and follow the entire work order of every job and ensure that all discrepancies are resolved.
Ensures the press has all required resources including supplies, and reports any shortages of resources to the First Press Operator.
Elevate unresolved or continuing problems to the shift Supervisor or Foreman where appropriate.
May run and maintain the press and folder and training others in the Crew Leader’s absence or at his/her direction.
Successfully complete the department’s training program.
Must be able to use a fork truck and/or clamp truck.
Additional Responsibilities :
Performs these duties in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees. Follows all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to proper use of PPEs, safe ergonomic practices, and proper and safe handling of chemicals.
Working knowledge, awareness, and compliance with ISO Procedures.
May require additional availability to work evenings and/or weekends.
Other duties as assigned, including working where directed, be it on varying presses or in other departments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Excellent vision, including the ability to perceive color
Ability to operate jacks safely
Ability to remain physically and mentally alert during second shift hours (6pm – 6am)
Capable of repeated standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting of skids and skid boards up to 60lbs for 8-12 hours at a time
Ability to work at a rapid pace
Ability to tolerate being exposed to loud noises and moving machinery (PPE provided)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
High School Diploma or Equivalent preffered
Prior experience in a printing environment helpful but not required
Valid Driver's License
Safely operate a fork truck/clamp truck
Problem solving skills
